Perspective
Something Iāve been running into more and more over the past few weeks is the perspective you have on your life, and especially on the possibilities within it. Iām watching a video of Chris Piascik in which he talks about his life and how he became a graphic designer. Throughout much of his childhood, and even part of his adult life, you can see that he didnāt believe it was possible for him to make this his profession. He loved drawing and was good at it, especially creating original drawings, monsters, and similar things. But at some point, he simply didnāt know what it actually took to become a graphic artist, and because of that, the perspective to truly commit to it was missing.
In the end, he did become one, simply because he kept drawing. People saw his work and offered him freelance jobs. It really shows how important it is to have the right perspective on the possibilities that life offers you.
This is also something that has been a common thread throughout my own life: the idea that certain things are not meant for me because Iām not good enough, or not worthy of them. Iāve largely worked through that by now. What is still missing, though, is a clear perspective on what I actually want to do, and what the possibilities are for me within that. Call it inspiration, or the creativity to see what I want to pursue. Still, I do feel that the realization, the ability to see those possibilities, is largely a matter of perspective, and that Iāve come quite a bit closer to that.
Take Tashi, for example: precisely because he doesnāt let himself be held back by how good he is at art, just does things, and believes in himself, he achieves it.
Believe more in yourself, and see the possibilities that lie before you.
